The weekend before, we decided to drive up the Hudson Valley and go apple picking. We were not sure what Isaac would think to see food growing on (gasp) trees! But he seemed to catch on very quickly. With a little help from Daddy, he became our head apple picker, taste tester and cheer leader in chief.
The apple orchard was amazing. There were tons of people flooding in, but the orchard was so large that you never felt that you were bumping elbows with others. That had a free in orchard all you can eat policy which Isaac took advantage of. And pony rides and hay rides which we also got in on. We have been mincing, slicing and baking apples into all our meals the past couple weeks. Waldorff salad, apple pancakes, apple cake, apples dipped in carmel. It has been fun, but there are only a few left and I must admit I feel somewhat relieved.
In October, we decided to finally do what Cliff and I had always told eachother we should do since we moved here in 2004--take a harbor cruise around NYC. It was such a special evening. The weather was beautiful, the boat had a fantastic dinner and dancing. The best of all was the upper outside deck where we could watch the NYC skyline go by. Of course, none of our pictures really turned out as is typical of being on a bobbing boat at night. But here is our best attempt.
Otherwise things have been business as usual. We got to the Met to see Rigoletto. Verdi wasn't our first choice, but it worked with our schedule and we ended up enjoying it so very much. They have slightly remodeled the Met and it was fun to see the changes.
