Hello all,
We hope that we will have some pictures up shortly so our blog will no longer be boring descriptions of what we are seeing and doing. The problem is that blogger.com is largely blocked by the censors, so while we can post stuff (we think--if you are reading this!) but we cannot see our own blog. Once we get to the much more free and progressive countries to the north (smirk, smirk) I'm sure we'll have less problems.
Here are a few things we have learned about pictures. We have resigned ourselves to having no good pictures of the two of us together. Most of our attempts to ask Chinese people to take our picture have failed. One lady just started laughing and laughing. I think she thought we wanted to take her picture. I would have understood, except that in the space of 30 minutes while wandering around Tianenmen Square, at least 3 Chinese families asked to take our picture--so it must not be that ridiculous. Margo thinks it is because of Cliff's New York Yankee's hat, and they think he is part of the team.
When we were at the Great Wall we finally found a Western couple--British Isles I think--and asked them to photograph us. They very happily obliged, but when we looked at the picture, the Great Wall had been left out! The picture could have been anywhere in China, or the world for that matter.
So, we hope that you will enjoy looking at pictures of us singly and separately.
