I had been thinking that perhaps baby Blair has not benefited from his first couple months in utero at my work place. Yeah, the icky smell of the Bronx family court, the coarse words, the up and down of literally running to court, the continual spread of germs, the occasional respondent that has TB (when their attorney is kind enouth to warn me, and fortunate enough to know himself). My confirmation appeared this morning in a New York Times headline:
What was the general reaction in the Bronx? Shock at the city's ignoring the problem until now? Outrage at the Bronx public officials poking into their privacy rights? Nope. May I quote:
Outside the Neighborhood and Family Health Center on East 149th Street in the South Bronx, Melissa Sierra, 20, expressed concern on Wednesday that the focus on the Bronx would reinforce “a lot of stereotypes” about the borough. “It might keep people away,” she said.
Ah, the Bronx. Its not about how many babies you have, or if you are HIV positive; its about what brand of stiletto you wear home from the hospital after your delivery, and if people will think the Bronx is any less than... perfect.
